Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Is Already Insomniac’s Highest-Rated Game In Nearly 20 Years

A swing and a hit!

With 122 critic reviews at the time of writing and a Metascore of 91 (earning it the coveted Metacritic Must-Play badge), Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is officially the highest-rated game that Insomniac has developed in almost two decades, and an equal tie for its highest-rated game of all time with both 2004’s Ratchet & Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal and 2000’s Spyro: Year of the Dragon.

It’s jumped clear of its predecessors with the original Marvel’s Spider-Man commanding a Metascore of 87 and its pseudo-sequel, Miles Morales earning an 85 in their respective original releases.

Out of curiosity I had a look at Insomniac’s track record when it comes to aggregate reviews scores on Metacritic and naturally it’s a stack of absolute bangers, with the Ratchet & Clank series truly leading the charge. Here are just some of the high accolades:

Here at Press Start Australia we gave Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 a solid 9/10 in our review, saying “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 cleverly pairs its added width and breadth with more depth and meaningful new gameplay and story opportunities. There’s rarely a moment here that doesn’t feel thrilling, enchanting, heartbreaking, awe-inspiring or some combination of it all. Beyond untangling the finer threads of its design or narrative ambitions though, it’s genuinely just the most fun, gorgeous open world superhero game out there.”
