A New PS5 Firmware Update Has Dropped And Here’s What’s Been Added

Just a couple things.

PlayStation has dropped a new minor PS5 firmware update, adding and tweaking just a few things to make life easier for users.

One improvement that those of us who spend time regularly playing music while using their console will be thankful to see that the music interface within the control centre has been improved to allow for better selection of music direct from the control centre menu, and PS VR2 users can now opt to block the console from displaying their surroundings on the TV or external display, in case they don’t want the See-Through View being visible on-screen.

There’s also a new command added to voice controls, though these are still unavailable outside of the US and UK. Here’s the full update notes:

PS5 Version 23.02-08.20.00 Update Notes

  • Music in the control centre is now much easier to use. With its two-column layout, you can easily browse various categories, playlists, and songs.
  • You can avoid unintentionally broadcasting your surroundings while broadcasting games with your PlayStation VR2. Go to Settings > Accessories > PlayStation VR2, and turn on Block See-Through View on TV to prevent the camera see-through image from being displayed on your TV while using your PS VR2.
  • If you say “What’s new?” via Voice Command on any screen, you can now check for new PS5 features. Currently, Voice Command (Preview) is only available in English for players with accounts for PlayStation Network in the US and UK.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.
