It Looks Like Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Won’t Have A Platinum Trophy On PS5

It's treated like DLC!

Early looks at the next big Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 3, have started to roll in now that the game is nearing release and folks are able to jump into the game’s Campaign Early Access.

One revelation that’s come out of it all is that the game seemingly doesn’t have a platinum trophy for players to earn on PlayStation 5. That’s quite unusual for a full-priced game, and the explanation is also an awkward reminder that Modern Warfare 3 is widely believed to have started out as a DLC for last year’s Modern Warfare 2 – because that’s exactly how the PS5’s trophy system recognises it.

It’s likely symptomatic of the fact that Activision is pushing towards slotting new Call of Duty releases into a universal app ecosystem, with one launcher for players to access content across multiple games and modes, which also has the benefit of bridging the gap for content to carry across the entire ecosystem. So while this might be a genuinely fully-fledged new release, it’s unfortunately treated by the system as add-on content just due to the nature of how it’s delivered.

Those playing on PS4 are seemingly unaffected by this, with outlet PowerPyx confirming that version does have a standalone trophy list and platinum. It could be that this is something Activision is able to fix down the line, but for now it’s an unfortunate situation for trophy hunters and the overall optics of this release.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launches on November 10th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Amazon has pre-orders for $79 including free shipping.
