The PS5 Pro was announced a few weeks ago with an almost identical design to the PS5 Slim with both consoles using the same external disc drive.
This led people to think that both consoles would use the same faceplates, especially given the disc drive comes with a faceplate (1 out of 4 parts) that will presumably work with both consoles, although this has now become unclear.
In the original reveal post, PlayStation said that the PS5 Pro had the same width of the PS5 Slim and the same height of the original PS5 going on to say that players could swap put console covers or the disc drive when they became available.
A PlayStation customer service representative gave a customer a stock standard response saying “No, the PS5 Pro and PS5 Slim do not share the same plates for all four areas. The PS5 Pro has a slightly different shape which means the plates won’t be interchangeable. Specifically the top and bottom plates are different between the two models”. Obviously, we know that customer service agents online can often have the wrong information or make an educated guess.
Similarly, an Amazon Japan listing had a seemingly unofficial compatibility chart that said the PS5 Slim faceplates would not be compatible with the PS5 Pro although both the disc drive and the vertical stand would be.
If that wasn’t enough proof, the EB Games listings say pretty definitively that they’re only compatible with the PS5 Slim and not the PS5 Pro.
“Covers are for PS5 (Slim) Digital & Disc consoles. NOT compatible with PlayStation 5 Pro.”
What makes this so confusing is the fact that the new PS5 Chroma collection has three faceplates designs (Indigo, Teal and Pearl) that release on the same day as the PS5 Pro (November 7th), which would be odd if they’re not compatible.
Interestingly enough, these are all just listed as ‘PlayStation Console Covers’ on Amazon whilst previously the ones that had been released were just marked as Slim.
- Indigo Slim Console Cover – $99.95 AUD
- Teal Slim Console Cover – $99.95 AUD
- Pearl Console Cover – $99.95 AUD
Several users have also mocked up an overlay with the PS5 Slim faceplates over the PS5 Pro and they do look identical, so it’s unclear whether this might all be an understanding and that that they are compatible.
According to Reddit user Sony-boy he overlayed the plates and the results looks like it would fit. pic.twitter.com/lZZOCV7EDu

We’ve reached out to PlayStation to see if they’re willing to say whether the PS5 Slim faceplates are compatible with the PS5 Pro either way. We certainly hope they will given that Sony hasn’t announced any for the PS5 Pro specifically if these don’t end up being compatible.
