AFL 23 Has Been Delayed Again On Xbox (Updated)

Oops!

UPDATE: We can now confirm that the digital Xbox version will be delayed in-line with the physical release (so mid-to-late June). PS4/PS5 and Steam versions will both be available on May 4th digitally and physically.

AFL 23 was only recently pushed back from its original release date of April 13th to this week on May 4th, but it looks like Big Ant’s return to the sport has suffered yet another fumble.

Strictly only for Xbox players this time, the game has been delayed for an unknown period of time. An email sent out to customers who’d pre-order the game at JB Hi-Fi states that the Xbox version will now not ship until “Mid to Late June.” It’s easy to assume that this is due to the same Xbox version manufacturing/shipping issues that likely contributed to the game’s original delay.

It’s unclear whether or not this will affect the game’s digital release on Xbox, but we can confirm that the PS5, PS4 and PC release is still set to go ahead on May 4th as planned.

We recently go out best look at gameplay of AFl 23 yet, from Twistie3. Within the video, you can see a bunch of unedited gameplay that shows off everything from free-flowing footy to set shots as well as some early opinions on the game:

We recently learned that, Aalong with the expected inclusions, such as the presence of every active AFL and AFLW league team, this iteration of the official AFL video game will be the first to include Pro Team. Although details are scarce at this stage, the trailer suggests that Pro Team might be the AFL equivalent of Ultimate Team, a card-based, team-building money printing machine that all of the latest FIFA games were built around.

Of all of the fan requested modes, Pro Team is certainly the most sought after and to see it integrated is exciting.

The game’s Launch Trailer also shows off a lot of the game’s other cool inclusions, including quarter-time briefs by coaches like Alastair Clarkson and familiar celebrations from Charlie Cameron’s motorcycle to Duursma’s rock star bow and arrow routine. You can watch it below:
