During this year’s huge Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest, which took place over the weekend, Square Enix revealed that Final Fantasy XIV is set to make its long-awaited debut on Xbox Series X|S.

Square brought none other than Phil Spencer himself on stage to share in the announcement that the hugely successful MMO entry in the mammoth RPG franchise will soon be available to play on Microsoft’s current-generation systems, with a release slated for early-to-mid 2024. Beta testing for the Xbox Series X|S version of Final Fantasy XIV will reportedly begin with the game’s Patch 6.5 update, which is expected to drop within the next few months.

Along with its move to Xbox Series X|S consoles, Final Fantasy XIV is also set to once again refresh its free trial offering, opening up even more of the game for new players to jump in and try for themselves. The “Even Further Expanded Free Trial” will debut along with Patch 6.5 and give players the opportunity to play through the base game, Heavensward expansion and the Stormblood expansion, up to level 70 with no limits on play time. The Final Fantasy XIV community has already updated its memes accordingly.

Final Fantasy XIV is also collaborating with Fall Guys on a new Warrior of Light Fame Pass kicking off on August 22nd, along with new Fall Guys-inspired Gold Saucer content coming to Final Fantasy XIV as part of the Patch 6.5 content drop.

All of this comes alongside the reveal of the next major expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, titled Dawntrail. This expansion is set to launch in Winter next year and will introduce new areas, new Allied Tribes, a level cap increase, new jobs, dungeons, gear and a heap more – along with the game’s first major graphical upgrade to both character and world visuals, promising to make sweeping improvements to the overall look of the game that launched in its “Realm Reborn” state almost exactly 10 years ago.
