With Fallout fever still gripping the world following the launch of Prime Video’s television adaptation earlier this month, the confirmation of a second season, and with the existing games seeing a resurgence in player counts, it’s no surprise that attention has shifted to Bethesda and what it’s planning to do in the realm of Fallout video games to capitalise on the sentiment.
As it turns out though, aside from Fallout 4’s new-gen patch and ongoing updates to Fallout 76 and Shelter, we’re probably going to be waiting a good long while for anything totally new in that world. In a recent interview focused on the show with executive producer Jonathan Nolan and Bethesda’s Todd Howard, IGN took the opportunity at the tail end to quiz Howard on whether fans can still expect Fallout 5 to launch after the eventual release of The Elder Scrolls VI, or if plans have changed in the wake of the show.
“I’m going to avoid putting dates on anything. I’ve learned that the hard way. So obviously, our focus as far as new development right now is Elder Scrolls VI, but that doesn’t mean that we’re not making plans for other things,” Howard told the outlet, seemingly confirming that a new Elder Scrolls title is definitely the next cab off the rank.
Howard mentioned ongoing work to Fallout 76, as well as continuing updates to last year’s Starfield, some of which he says are being announced soon. “We’re still doing a lot of work, obviously on Fallout 76, and we see the community, so many people going into that game and kind of rediscovering it and just so happy with where that game is at. It really does, and I mean, this has one of the best communities in all of gaming. Surprisingly, it’s a very, very nice apocalypse, and we’re doing a lot of Starfield work as well. So we have some really good updates that are going to get announced soon for that game. So, a lot going on here.”
“With a surprisingly riveting original story to tell, Fallout is a rollicking ride through all-too familiar wastes,” Brodie wrote in his review of the first season of Fallout. “It might not prove to set the world on fire, though with enough fan service to shake a Ripper at, it’s assured to start a flame in the hearts of long-time fans.
