Hype Killed Scalebound, Suggests Phil Spencer

Microsoft’s sudden and swift cancellation of Scalebound hit like a truck as the stark realisation set in that we’d never get to fly a bad ass dragon while listening to cool jams. Plus, it was yet another exclusive title lost for the Microsoft brand. Details on why it was laid to rest have emerged from an interview with Phil Spencer.

He expressed that the decision “hurt him” like it did the fans, but he believes the game’s possible premature reveal caused such pressure to deliver that it became a concern whether the team could meet expectations. And so, the project was shuttered.

Spencer also expressed a deep respect for Hideki Kamiya and PlatiumGames and still hopes to work with them in future.
