Netflix has announced that it’s producing an anime series adaptation of Scott Pilgrim, the graphic novel series that was originally adapted into a live-action feature film in 2010.
Excitingly, the anime will feature the original cast of the Edgar Wright-directed film reprising their roles, and Wright himself is named as one of the Executive Producers. Original creator, Bryan Lee O’Malley will also executive produce as well as write the series. The anime is coming from studio, Science Saru, who Netflix has worked with in the past on other series including the excellent Devilman Crybaby.

We don’t yet know where the series will place in the Scott Pilgrim narrative, but at least a couple of the “evil exes” are back based on the casting.
“Original creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, along with writer BenDavid Grabinski have conjured up an anime series of Scott Pilgrim that doesn’t just expand the universe, but also…well, just watch it,” Wright is quoted. “I’m more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure. You are in for a treat.”
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date, nor shown off any vision of the series or even given it an official title, but there’s a trailer announcing the casting which you can watch below:
The most recent bit of Scott Pilgrim media was the Complete Edition re-release of Ubisoft’s Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game a couple years ago, which we gave an 8/10, saying “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition brings together everything that was lost all those years ago to dreaded licensing issues to remind us of why we missed it so much. It’s a fun and quirky beat-em-up, though the lack of online in all the modes offered feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.”
