It’s been nearly a decade coming, but after already being delayed multiple times already since it was originally revealed (largely due to pandemic-related challenges) the Minecraft movie has been given a shiny new release date.

Thanks to an announcement from Warner Bros. we now know that the Minecraft movie, which is set to star Aquaman lead, Jason Momoa, will release on April 4th, 2025 – so almost exactly two years from now.

It’s a big week for video game-to-movie adaptations, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie having just hit cinemas and the announcement of a brand-new Street Fighter film on the way.

Aside from the date, we still don’t know a whole lot about the Minecraft movie, what format it’ll be or who Momoa will even be playing. Previously Shawn Levy and Rob McElhenney were attached to the film’s production, and Giant Freakin’ Robot have reported that Sydney Sweeney has been offered a role.

The next big Minecraft release in the video game world is Minecraft Legends, a multiplayer-focused action strategy spin-off coming on April 18th, 2023 to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch and PC. It’ll also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
