During its Ubisoft Forward showcase today, Ubisoft lifted the lid on Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR – the series’ ambitious foray into the world of virtual reality – with an exciting, albeit pre-rendered, debut trailer.
The game will put players in the virtual bodies of three iconic Assassin’s Creed heroes with Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Connor Kenway and Kassandra, taking them into as-yet-untold moments in each characters’ respective story. Taking place across the Italian Renaissance, the American Revolution and Ancient Greece, it’ll give fans the opportunity to see familiar places and faces from an entirely new point-of-view.
It’s also set to be a proper Assassin’s Creed gameplay experience with free-flowing, 360-degree parkour and intuitive combat that blends real-world actions with recognisable Assassin’s Creed mechanics and abilities, like swordplay, bows, smoke bombs, and of course – the Hidden Blade. There’ll be plenty of stealth as well hiding, sneaking, blending into crowds and even air assassinations.
The production values are looking pretty well up there with some of the more premium VR experiences we’ve seen, giving players a whole new sense of immersion in the world of Assassin’s Creed with few compromises – the combat, the stealth, the parkour, the cinematics and large, open environments full of reactive citizens, it’s all here. While there’s no set release date yet, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR is slated to launch this year.
