Nvidia Has Started Teasing The RTX 3080 GPU Reveal

It looks like we’re getting closer and closer to the RTX 3080 announcement. Nvidia has today started counting down to a major announcement on its social pages.

They posted a video with “UltimateCountdown” along with a a star going supernova. The header image of the company’s Twitter pages have also been updated with the words “21 days. 21 years”. It’s been long thought that the RTX 3000 range would be announced at the end of August and the “21 days” lines up with this. This includes the RTX 3080 and RTX 3080 Ti and potentially the RTX 3070. It’s thought that at least part of the range will launch soon after in September.

Wccftech has a great theory that the “21 years” related to the original GeForce 256 GPU. It’s been almost 21 years since it launched and if you multiply 256 by 21, you get 5,376 which is weirdly enough the core count that has leaked for the 3080.

We’ve already seen Nvidia unveil the Ampere architecture earlier this year, but this was built for scientific computing and is not consumer facing. Obviously, a big selling point of these new GPUs will be Cyberpunk 2077, which releases in November.
