Silent Hill 2 Remake

Konami Asked For Silent Hill 2 Remake Pitches From Multiple Developers Before Deciding On Bloober Team

Bloober says its remake will be "very faithful" to the original.

A new interview with venerable indie horror studio, Bloober Team, has shed some light on key aspects of its upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, which was announced back in October as a timed PS5/PC exclusive.

Speaking to DreadXP, Bloober’s Chief Marketing Officer, Anna Jasinska, spoke about the studio’s upcoming original title, Layers of Fears, as well as the remake of Konami’s PS2 survival horror classic. The whole interview is worth a read, but there were some interesting tidbits amongst the Silent Hill 2 talk that we felt were worth pointing out.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Has Been Announced And Is A Timed PS5/PC Exclusive

Firstly, when asked about whether Bloober was approached to develop the Silent Hill 2 remake or pitched it themselves, Jasinskasays that Konami actually got in touch with multiple developers and asked for concepts for a potential remake, with Bloober’s pitch winning out against competition from a number of studios.

“The idea of working on this project stalked us for many years, and in 2019, we received an invitation from Konami to participate in the Tokyo Games Show. To our delight, Konami asked us to prepare a concept for a remake of the original game’s second installment in exchange for the opportunity of bringing the concept to life. Of course, we weren’t the only contenders. Many other studios were vying for cooperation as well, but in the end, our concept was the one that stole Konami’s heart,” says Jasinska. “They recognised our commitment and passion for horror, and that alone was an enormous distinction for us. Our company was thunderstruck when we received this ecstatic information because many of Bloober Team’s employees are die-hard fans of the title.”

Elsewhere, Jasinskadescribes Bloober’s work on the remake as “faithful”, with a very safe approach to any changes, keeping the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and of course rebuilding the visuals from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.

With no release date in sight yet, we can only hope to see more new info on the Silent Hill 2 remake soon. For now, here’s the current teaser trailer:
