UPDATED: Early Prototype Footage Of An Alleged New PlayStation IP Has Leaked

Resistance: Gears of Effect?

Update: Eagle-eyed users on Reddit have begun speculating that this could in fact be a recently-revealed project from Outriders studio, People Can Fly, codenamed RED. In the leaked footage, the word “RED” can be faintly seen in the bottom right-hand corner.

The comments from leaker, Dusk Golem, when the original video surfaced were that the game has seen quite a bit of polish since the footage was taken, which doesn’t quite line up with People Can Fly’s claims that RED is still very early in production, but given the studio is based in Europe and has experience with third-person RPG shooters it certainly makes sense.

A well-known poster on video game forum, IconEra, has shared what is supposedly footage of a very early prototype build of an unannounced new PlayStation IP.

The footage is claimed to be from a sci-fi RPG running on Unreal Engine 5 and in development by Sony’s European external support studio “XDEV” presumably in collaboration with another, unnamed studio.

You can see the IconEra footage embedded in the below tweet:

It’s obviously not a lot to go off, showing just a scant few seconds of a generic-looking player character looking out across something foreboding and alien (and very 2006 tan/beige).

Noted leaker, Dusk Golem, has also commented on the footage as it was shared to Reddit, confirming its authenticity and saying that the game is now much further along than this early footage suggests with music and full voice acting already implemented and that they’ve seen a lot more of it.

As with any “leak” and particularly one so thin on details it’s important to understand that this could very well be fabricated or, even if it is real, may never see the light of day as a final product. Still, it’s interesting to see what PlayStation might be cooking up especially with its acquisition of Bungie last year reportedly being a product of a focus on live-service games into the future.
