Insomniac’s Wolverine Game Might Be Coming As Early As Next Year

No claws for concern.

GiantBomb’s Jeff Grub, ever the source of fairly accurate claims to “insider” video game news, has spoken about Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine game on his livestream podcast, Game Mess Mornings.

Speaking with Jan Ochoa on the subject, Grubb cites sources familiar with the studio and development of the game, saying that Wolverine could launch as early as Q3/4 2024, which would be pretty well bang on a year after the studio launches Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 this Spring.

Grubb also claims that Insomniac is targeting a more mature age rating for the game, and trying to distance it from the character as known in the Fox movies, instead aiming to have this take on Wolverine stand on its own. While the details definitely seem a bit shaky and should be taken with a healthy dose of scepticism, it also sounds like this might be some form of prequel story to Wolverine joining the X-Men or at least begin in that fashion.

Regarding the release date, it’s clarified that Grubb has also heard that the release might go as far back as 2025, though Insomniac’s output has proven to be fairly rapid through recent releases so it’s not entirely unthinkable that it could be earlier.

Following a teaser back in September 2021, we’ve heard next to nothing about the game so here’s hoping a larger reveal is on the way.
