Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Is Getting A Prequel Comic For Comic Book Day

Free on the web!

PlayStation and Insomniac have announced that it’s releasing a prequel comic to the much-anticipated Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, in celebration of Free Comic Book Day on May 6th.

The comic will tell a new story for Peter Parker, Miles Morales and MJ, filling in some gaps in-between the previous games and the new one and pitting them against a new and mysterious super villain. It’ll also explore the lives of the trio, with Peter’s adjusting to being one of two Spider-Men in New York, Miles’ schooling and MJ’s career as a journalist.

“In this story, their lives collide as Peter, Miles, and MJ attempt to balance their responsibilities to the city, and each other. They keep coming back to one of the main themes of the comic: is magic real? Because in this action-packed issue, a beloved Super Villain makes their first appearance in our universe and appears to have supernatural abilities that defy mere webs and fists: none other than The Hood!”

Insomniac collaborated with writer Christos Gage, who was also a writer on Marvel’s Spider-Man, and artist Ig Guara on the comic, which will be made available at participating comic book stores (in the US, sadly) as well as a digital download on the Marvel Unlimited app or official Marvel website.

On top of the comic news, PlayStation also announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, the PS5 re-release of the blockbuster Insomniac game that was previously only available as part of the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on PS5, will now be made available as a separate purchase later in May.

An upgrade path for existing physical or digital owners of Marvel’s Spider-Man will also be made available for a small fee. You can read more about that here.
