Final Fantasy XVI’s Platinum Trophy Will Require Two Full Playthroughs

Who needs sleep, right?

With Final Fantasy XVI less than a week away, and with the unfortunate situation of copies of the game already finding their way out in the world, the game’s trophy list has also found its way out onto the internet and from it we can see what kind of challenge that trophy hunting fans have to look forward to.

We’re not going to link to any trophy lists or drop the full list here as it’s information that technically shouldn’t be out there just yet and it also contains what most would consider significant spoilers, but if you were to search up even the most basic terms you’ll find plenty of places to peruse the entire thing.

What we can say is that, after viewing the list of 40 Bronze, 6 Silver, 4 Gold and 1 Platinum trophies ourselves, it’s definitely going to require putting some hours in.

There’s a mix of trophies related to story progression, trophies for completing certain aspects of gameplay and the world in full, some for performing specific actions with specific Eikons (some of which are hidden for good reason) and at least one will require that players roll credits on the game twice, with one playthrough on any difficulty and another on the ultra-hard Final Fantasy difficulty that’s only accessible through a New Game+ save. If you’ve gone for the platinum in Final Fantasy VII Remake, you’ve kind of been down this road before.

The Final Fantasy difficulty mode, which the team at CBUIII revealed during the game’s pre-release marketing run, significantly ups the ante by making enemies harder and more aggressive, placing higher level enemies in earlier areas and even increasing their numbers. Clive will carry across his unlocked Eikons, abilities, level and equipment, with new and even stronger equipment available to craft, but based on comments from Game Director Hiroshi Takai and Combat Director Ryota Suzuki, players can expect to have their skills well and truly tested in this mode.

Given that the studio has claimed the game will run for about 35-40 hours to complete without factoring in side content, nailing this platinum trophy could very well be a 100+ hour endeavour based on the difficulty milestone alone.

Final Fantasy XVI releases on June 22nd exclusively for PS5. Amazon has pre-orders for $84.99 with free shipping.
