Insomniac Could Have A Secret Third Game In The Works

Working in Overdrive.

It seems that not only could Insomniac be secretly plugging away at a still-unannounced game alongside its work on Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, but the writing may have been on the wall for quite some time.

In recent days a nearly year-old video has resurfaced and begun making the rounds on social media, showing relatively recent (since November 2021) Insomniac hire and Project Director, Erin Eberhardt speaking to Full Sail University in a livestream centred around the experience of working in the AAA video game development industry.

Eberhardt says in an introduction to her career progress to date, “I worked on PlayStation Now where we launched all the game streaming technology for Sony’s backbone, and most recently I was at Blizzard Entertainment in their eSports division. So this is actually my first AAA game project, I’m the Project Director here on an unannounced project so I am very excited to be actually making the games now.”

Naturally this has created some buzz since, at the time, Insomniac had already revealed both Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, so if Eberhardt is accurate in saying she’s working on an unannounced project at the studio it means there’s more to come. Of course, it shouldn’t be remotely surprising that Insomniac would be thinking about what comes next and there’s a very good chance that if there is something in the pipeline it’s still very early days – five-to-six year modern development cycles and all that.

Still, it’s fun to think about what the venerable studio might be cooking up next. Here’s hoping it’s a follow up to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, eh? Or a new Resistance?

Either way, Insomniac’s next game is still Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which launches exclusively for PS5 on October 20, 2023. Amazon currently has pre-orders at a discounted $99 with free shipping and a pre-order price guarantee.
