No Man’s Sky’s Huge ECHOES Update Introduces The Game’s First New Race

"I am just a simple robot, hold my hand."

In case you were wondering whether Hello Games had any plans to stop bringing free, feature-packed updates to its (now) incredible space exploration sim, No Man’s Sky, the answer is seemingly a resounding “not even close.”

With No Man’s Sky now having been out for a whole seven years and having received nearly 30 major updates, it’s now receiving the biggest new content and feature drop this year with ECHOES – which drops today and includes the introduction of the first new race to the game since its 2016 launch.

ECHOES will see players meet a brand-new robotic race, complete with new story content to uncover and quests to undertake with the promise of new avatar cosmetics based on this long-hidden community of robots. Players will even get the chance to assemble their own robotic, ceremonial staff that’ll work as a new tool for mining and battling.

The No Man’s Sky ECHOES update also significantly beefs up space combat with new Pirate freighters to contend with in defense of fleets, including the ability to fly through enemy trenches in your ship and sabotage them from close proximity. You’ll also be able to engage in a new weapon economy with the ability to trade and scrap weapons, and players’ collections of discoveries and wonders can now be placed in their bases as holographic displays. Finally, a new expedition titled VOYAGES will set explorers off on a new adventure into the vast universe.

On top of the new content, ECHOES also brings with it improved visuals with better rendering quality, stability and performance across the board. PS VR2 players will get a huge bump up in quality thanks to foveated rendering, and Switch players will see performance improvements and a new anti-aliasing solution that promises more crisp visuals both in handheld and docked mode.
