Team Cherry Has Provided An Update On Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Release

We'll hold.

Fans who’ve been eagerly awaiting news on Hollow Knight: Silksong finally have a very small update from one of the folks at developer Team Cherry regarding the game’s release date.

Matthew Griffin, who works marketing  and publishing for the game, tweeted an update revealing that the game was originally pencilled in for release this half of 2023, but that the studio needs more time. Optimistically, they suggest that the game is coming together nicely, but it’s simply grown in size and the quality of the end product is tantamount.

The tweet reads:

“Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong.

We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We’re excited by how the game is shaping up, and it’s gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can.

Expect more details from us once we get closer to release.”

Hollow Knight: Silksong was originally revealed as coming to Xbox Game Pass at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase, meaning it was also included in Microsoft’s promise of “games releasing within the next 12 months,” but much like a fair few of those games it’s clearly not going to make that deadline.

Still, fans have waited patiently for this long and if it means the folks at Team Cherry can keep themselves sane and healthy and still produce a game they’re proud of, a delayed timeline is really not a big deal.

The original Hollow Knight launched in 2017 to widespread acclaim for its gorgeous visuals, rich world and deep metroidvania gameplay. It was a smash hit for the Adelaide-based studio and so hype for its expansion-turned-fully-fledged sequel is naturally at an enormous high.
