While we still don’t know when the next season of Netflix’s The Witcher live-action series will release, the company has dropped the very first teaser trailer and done so in probably the most appropriate way – by finally revealing how Liam Hemsworth looks in the role of Geralt of Rivia.
Donning the swords, scars and long, white locks of the iconic monster slayer after taking over the job from previous lead, Henry Cavill, this very short teaser shows that Hemsworth fits the brief just fine. He’ll be playing Geralt over the fourth and fifth season of the show, which are being filmed back-to-back and – according to Netflix itself – will be the last two seasons of the show.
Take a look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt below:
The fourth and fifth seasons of The Witcher will supposedly cover the three remaining volumes of the books by Andrzej Sapkowski – Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.
“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich says in a Netflix blog post. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
On top of the live action show, Netflix has also got a new animated series in the works, titled The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. While that’s exciting in and of itself for fans the cherry on top is that Doug Cockle, voice of Geralt in CD Projekt’s video game series based on the property, will be reprising his role for the series. Netflix says that Cockle will be joined by a cast that includes names from the live action The Witcher as well, with the series set to debut this year.
