Nintendo Switch Update 16.0.0

Nintendo Switch System Update 16.0.0 Has Dropped And Adds ??? Nicknames

Weird.

Nintendo has just dropped Nintendo Switch system update 16.0.0. Whilst a major number jump normally results in the likes of folders, or Bluetooth headset compatibility or literally any other major functionality, as far as we know, this one adds something totally random.

In the patch notes, Nintendo says that after updating to 16.0.0 user nicknames that cannot be used (presumably with words that aren’t allowed) will be replaced with “???”. I’m not super sure what stood in their place before.

Outside of this, Nintendo says that the major updates adds stability improvements to enhance the user experience.

It’s absolutely a weird one and to my knowledge, this would mark the first major Switch system update that has dropped without any major functionality, unless there’s something in the backend that we’re not seeing and Nintendo isn’t ready to reveal yet.

NINTENDO SWITCH 16.0.0 UPDATE PATCH NOTES

  • User nicknames that cannot be used will be replaced with “???” which can be updated from the profile settings.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

We’ll keep you posted if we hear anymore.
