It’s no secret that the world is in the vice grip of Zelda fever since the release of the massive new mainline entry, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The receipts are in though, solidifying just how monumental this launch has been, with Nintendo reporting that the game has sold a whopping 10 million copies globally within the first three days of being on sale.
It was only six months ago that Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet together reached the same milestone, a figure that was a record-beater at the time but now has been matched by Link’s latest adventure, putting it at not only the fastest-selling game in the history of the Legend of Zelda series but on equal footing as the fastest-selling game Nintendo game ever.
For comparison, the game’s predecessor The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has achieved lifetime sales of 29.81 million as of Nintendo’s most recent earnings report, meaning the sequel has achieved one third of a six-year total in just three days.

It’s no wonder the game is doing so well, either, with critics lavishing praise on the game while fans flood the internet with excitement, discoveries, and wanton Korok murder.
Our own review scored the game a massive 10/10, saying “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom builds upon Breath of the Wild’s robust systems to offer an experience that eclipses the original in practically every way. Not only that, but it works incredibly hard to restore some of the things lapsed players might’ve missed from the traditional Zelda experience, and it pays off in droves. While the novelty of its design will never be as impactful as Breath of the Wild’s debut, Tears of the Kingdom is one of the best Zelda experiences you’ll ever have.”
