Atomic Heart’s First Expansion Has Been Revealed And A New Game Plus Mode Is Out Now

A hearty update.

Atomic Heart, the sci-fi FPS/action RPG from Mundfish and Focus Entertainment that launched in February this year, is getting its first paid DLC expansion on August 1st.

Titled Annihilation Instinct, the DLC will give players a brand-new journey to go on through the Mendeleev Complex and its surrounding swamps, looking for answers while wrestling with new, shape-shifting robot enemies armed with new weapons and even a time-bending new ability. Annihilation Instinct will be available as part of the game’s $59.95 “Atomic Pass” or included with the Gold or Premium editions of the game.

Coming as a free bonus and available right now though, is an update for Atomic Heart containing an added New Game+ mode, which thrusts players back into an even more difficult version of the campaign complete with their previously unlocked gear and abilities. In this mode, enemies will have all-new resistances and attack effects for players to content with for the greatest challenge yet.

“Continue the story in the Annihilation Instinct DLC and learn what happened to this dystopian world after the climax of Atomic Heart. Prepare to embark on a journey through the new mind-bending Mendeleev Complex and its surrounding swamps and discover the truth about NORA as Major P-3 is pulled back into Facility 3826. Survive vicious, shape-shifting new enemies and take them down using two cunning new weapons – ranged one the Secateur and melee one the Klusha – as well as your glove’s new Techno-Stasis ability, allowing you to manipulate time itself.”

We gave Atomic Heart a 6.5 in our original review, saying “The story plays out like a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced popcorn atrocity, the upgrade shop might as well be Travelex given how many currencies it juggles, and the performance is less than optimal. Atomic Heart is an exercise in excess. It has some clear strengths, like its first in class art direction and gunplay, however these are far outweighed by the game’s faults.”
