It was only a couple of days ago that the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl developer GSC Game World announced a partnership with DMarket on selling NFTs for the upcoming survival horror shooter, including one that would give owners the opportunity to become an NPC within the game.
Backlash from fans online after the announcement was instantly critical however, with many pointing out the irony of a game set in a post-apocalyptic setting getting involved with a business that notoriously has severe environmental implications.
Now, the company has posted on the game’s official Twitter account to say that they’ve cancelled their NFT plans in response:

This comes very shortly after a now-deleted follow-up to the original announcement which seemingly doubled up on the plans and attempted to offer an explanation for the endeavour. The internet being the internet, said tweet still exists:
