According to a report originally published by Bloomberg, Ubisoft Entertainment SA has filed a lawsuit against Apple Inc. and Google LLC for allegedly selling a ripoff of the company’s enormously popular shooter, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege.
The complaint accuses the mobile title “Area F2 – Global Launch”, developed by Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd.’s Ejoy.com, of being a “near carbon copy” of Rainbow Six: Siege and states that the likeness cannot “seriously be disputed“. The complaint goes on to reiterate that Rainbow Six: Siege is among Ubisoft’s most valuable intellectual properties and that “virtually every aspect of AF2 is copied” from their title “From the operator selection screen to the final scoring screen, and everything in between,”
Bloomberg reached out to representatives of the respondents, Google Alibaba and Apple but they have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
The complaint reveals that prior to the filing last Friday in federal court in Los Angeles, Ubisoft had already notified Apple and Google of the copyright infringement but the companies refused to remove the game from the Google Play and Apple App stores.
