Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s Villain Is The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal

Borrowing a little bit from Far Cry, I’m fairly confident that Ghost Recon: Breakpoint will have one of the most memorable villains in the series yet in a Ghost Recon game and you’ve already met him.

His name is Cole D. Walker, and he featured prominently in the Operation: Oracle update for Ghost Recon: Wildlands. But this Cole is different. He’s gone rogue, has his own agenda and leads a pack of other rogue ghosts and drones called the Wolves.

ALL OF OUR EXCLUSIVE GHOST RECON: BREAKPOINT COVERAGE:

Walker is played by Jon Bernthal, who you might know for his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, The Walking Dead and Netflix’s The Punisher.

I also had a chat with Emil Daubon, a storied Green Beret himself and writer on Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, about what it was like to work with Jon: –

James – What was it like working with someone like Jon Bernthal? How is it different to working with someone like that as opposed to someone who does voice acting or mocap work. Is it different?

Emil –I worked very closely with Jon on the mocap session. I mean he is a consummate professional. He shows up every day ready to work, takes great notes, makes adjustments, brings a lot of his own experience to the performance. It’s an acting job, you know. Mocap isn’t just about creating the motion for the game mechanics, it’s about embodying the character.

This particular story is so deeply immersed in the characters experiences and how they affect the player experience that, I don’t know if anyone else could’ve done it as well as Jon to be fair. And working with him was great, it really, he just brought a lot of energy and enthusiasm every day. He made it easy.

James – I think yeah, he was a great presence in the trailer.

Emil – Oh yeah. You just wait. [laughs]

You’ll be able to meet Jon Bernthal and his Wolves when Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint releases Friday, October 4th later this year.
