Preloading For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Has Started And It’s Smaller Than Expected

Link shrink.

Digital pre-loads for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have kicked off on the Nintendo Switch eShop ahead of the game’s release on Friday, May 12th, and it looks like the game’s install size isn’t quite as enormous as we first thought.

After earlier reports indicated that the game would be one of Nintendo’s heaviest at just over 18GB, it turns out things aren’t quite that bad with the final product coming in at a slightly more svelte 16.2GB. This number could differ in certain regions depending on languages and other factors, but that seems to be the norm so far.

Although the physical copy can obviously be the cheaper option depending on where you go (check out our handy Bargain Guide!), pre-ordering and pre-loading digitally from the Nintendo Switch eShop means you’ll be able to fire the game up and start playing as soon as the clock strikes midnight locally. For us Aussies, that’s a fair chunk sooner than the rest of the world – even preceding Nintendo’s own Treehouse: Live presentation meant to lead into the launch.
