PlayStation fans were a little disappointed to discover that the PlayStation 5 would be launching with just a single colourway in November of this year. There was, however, a glimmer of hope when we discovered just how easily the two side panels of the console can be removed from the system.
As a result, PlayStation 5 owners have been getting increasingly creative with the ways in which they are customising and modifying their brand new consoles, including this PS5 player who decided to give their console a classic look, a throwback to the beloved PS1:
Got bored. Decided to spruce up my #PS5 with laser cut plastic inlays in a throwback to the OG logo colors. pic.twitter.com/NtNidgRsHr

Impressed by the result, some other Twitter users decided to follow suit:
awesome, I had to do it myself pic.twitter.com/RrlxxwYtrm

If you want to recreate this for your own PlayStation 5 but don’t have the tools to laser cut a plastic inlay lying around (yeah, me either), you could always opt for a custom decal like this one here, which produces a pretty similar effect for just USD$4.99 and includes an additional print in a vibrant colour of your choice.

Sony has yet to announce any variations on the standard white console, the removable side plates or any available peripherals but we’re hoping to see some new colours in the future. I’d personally love to see a limited edition PlayStation 5 consoles made for the release of God of War: Ragnarok, complete with Norse runes and warpaint but I suppose we’ll have to wait and see…maybe somebody will create a decal for that too.
