PS5 Redesign

A PS5 Redesign With A New Chip Could Be Coming Next Year

Digital Times is reporting that a PS5 redesign is coming next year, releasing in Q2 or Q3.

This is not a hardware design redesign, but rather an internal redesign that will utilise a “new semi customised” 6nm CPU from AMD. This is due to the fact that the 5nm is apparently too costly for Sony’s tastes.

PS5 stock is still in short supply around the world, and it’s unclear if the usage of this new chip will increase production or not. In a recent investor’s call, it was said that the shortage of semiconductors was “one factor,” but that there “are other factors that will impact the production volume”.

We’ll keep you posted on more news, but it’s not expected that the change in chip would have a huge impact on the PS5 that you already have, with it likely only changing production and pricing on Sony’s end.

The PS5 is already the fastest-selling console of all time, so it’ll be interesting to see what Sony does over the next 12-18 months to continue this upwards trend.
