Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered Is Finally Available As A Standalone PS5 Game But It Ain’t Cheap

With great games comes great financial insecurity.

Update: Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered has arrived on the PlayStation Store in its standalone release form and… it’s expensive.

For the princely sum of $94.95 you can pick up the remastered PlayStation 5 version of Insomniac’s celebrated Spider-Man game without having to buy it in the bundle with Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales.

Arguably, yes, Miles Morales is also $94.95 on PS5 but the existing Ultimate Edition containing both games totals out at $124.95 at full price, and is routinely discounted in digital and physical retail sales, so it’s a bitter pill to swallow.

Even if you already own Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4, the local pricing is seemingly a bit wacky with WellPlayed pointing out that it comes at a cost of $25 here, versus our friends in the USA who are being charged a more palatable $10 USD (about $15 Aussie).

You can grab the game right here.

Alongside the news that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would be getting a prequel comic in celebration of Free Comic Book Day, PlayStation has also announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, the PS5 re-release of the blockbuster Insomniac game that was previously only available as part of the Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition on PS5, will now be made available as a separate purchase later in May.

Adding to that, anyone who’s purchased any physical or digital version of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 will be eligible for a $10 USD (approx $15 AUD) upgrade to the Remastered PS5 version. This includes the standard game, Digital Deluxe Edition or Game of the Year Edition, with all of them carrying the same upgrade fee to get the Remastered version which contains all of the DLC released for the game as standard.

The only limitation will be anyone who obtained the game via PlayStation Plus, which will not be eligible for the upgrade. You might remember that the game is being pulled from PlayStation Plus Extra entirely this month, anyway.

The standalone version of Marvel’s Spider-Man remastered will be priced at $49.99 USD (approx $75 AUD).

We’ll endeavour to update this when local date and pricing details arrive.

The new prequel comic for Free Comic Book Day on May 6th will tell a new story for Peter Parker, Miles Morales and MJ, filling in some gaps in-between the previous games and the new one and pitting them against a new and mysterious super villain. It’ll also explore the lives of the trio, with Peter’s adjusting to being one of two Spider-Men in New York, Miles’ schooling and MJ’s career as a journalist.

Insomniac collaborated with writer Christos Gage, who was also a writer on Marvel’s Spider-Man, and artist Ig Guara on the comic, which will be made available at participating comic book stores (in the US, sadly) as well as a digital download on the Marvel Unlimited app or official Marvel website.
