Malys Is The New Aussie-Made Game From The Stray Gods Team

Decks in hand!

Announced overnight from the Grammy and BAFTA-nominated Summerfall Studios comes Malys, which is, fair to say, quite a pivot in terms of tone and genre from the team’s first game, Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical.

Malys is described as a “hellish roguelite deckbuilder” and, along with a Kickstarter that, as of posting, is in pre-launch, it’s set to release its 1.0 version for PC in 2025.

It’s an interesting approach as most Kickstarter-funded titles are often years from release when backed, however, it seems important for Summerfall Studios to get the game into players hands as soon as possible.

“We want to work with you directly to reach 1.0 and get it in your hands within six months of the campaign launching. To achieve that goal, we need your backing, support, and feedback,” reads the studio’s official statement.

“So few studios get to release a second game, and the second project is often the one that can provide studio stability and longevity.”

As with Stray Gods, Malys is written by David Gaider and places you in the role of a priest-turned-exorcist as you purge the city streets of the festering, damned rot that plagues it. It sounds pretty metal, and it’s said to push the boundaries of roguelite storytelling.

“Summerfall Studios is built on finding ways to tell innovative stories, big and small, and Malys is no exception,” says Liam Esler, Managing Director of Summerfall Studios. “With a heavy emphasis on immersive and strategic play, Malys is a unique experience within the genre.”

Malys can be found on Kickstarter ahead of the campaign’s official kick off with the game set to launch on PC later this year.
