The Mercenaries, the promised additional free DLC mode for Capcom’s superb Resident Evil 4 remake, is out now for fans to sink their teeth into.
Like previous Resident Evil games, and the original version of Resident Evil 4, The Mercenaries is an arcade-style horde mode that pits players against waves of enemies with the goal of racking up high scores. Unlike the original though, this one is seemingly missing some key characters in the forms of Ada and Wesker.

We know that these characters are coming from previous datamines of the remake though, and serial leaker DuskGolem on Twitter claims that they’re being held off to tie in with the upcoming rumoured Separate Ways DLC release. In return, we do get the mighty Luis as a newly-added playable merc.
(2/2) Each character has a Mercs theme like the original.
There is an update for Mercenaries plotted for closer to Separate Ways DLC release, which adds four more characters (Leon Mafia, Ada, Ada OG RE4 Dress, & Wesker), an additional stage & a new "Extreme" mode. For later! pic.twitter.com/KIArBWEIRw

Alongside the new DLC mode, Capcom has seemingly added in new microtransactions to the game in the form of paid weapon upgrade “tickets,” which are obtainable through gameplay already but can now be purchases with real money.
“With this, you’ll have access to a weapon’s exclusive upgrade at any time, regardless of the weapon’s level. Not only that, but once unlocked, the upgrade itself is free of charge!”
We gave the remake of Resident Evil 4 a whopping 10/10 in our review, saying “Resident Evil 4 translates a game already revered into an absolute masterpiece. The tension is heightened and the combat is stronger than ever, all while still maintaining the corny dialogue and humour that the original game was known for. While there are a few minor aspects missing, Resident Evil 4 is a strong example of what any remake should be and is well worth your time.”
Resident Evil 4 is now available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Amazon has the cheapest price at $84.99 with free shipping.
