A Big PlayStation Showcase Is Rumoured For Next Month

Astro Bot, please and thank you.

New rumours have hit the scene to suggest that PlayStation is gearing up for a big, new showcase next month, with frequent leaker Jeff Grubb making the claim during a recent Giant Bombcast episode.

“I have heard that there will be a PlayStation something, either a State of Play or a Showcase, next month, in May, so this is probably going to be there,” Grubb told his fellow podcast hosts.

“I’ve heard both Showcase and maybe State of Play,” he adds a little further in. “It seems like it might lean towards Showcase, it’s definitely in that timeframe of when they did the Showcase last year.”

Last year’s May PlayStation Showcase was a stacked one, giving us the first look at the PlayStation Portal (then called Project Q) along with the announcement of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, new looks at games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy XVI, and a heap more.

With the recent rating of Konami and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake by the ESRB, Grubb also posits what we might see the game at this hypothetical PlayStation event along with a possible release date, but he confirms that’s conjecture on his part and hasn’t come from “insider” information as with the showcase rumours.

You can read the ESRB’s quite lengthy summary of Silent Hill 2 for PS5 and PC here (warning that it includes references to violence/sexual violence), where it’s been given a Mature (17+) rating for depictions of gore, sexual content, gun violence and pretty much everything else you’d expect given the source material.

Not long after Grubb’s claims, another familiar leaker in “The Snitch” dropped a cryptic tweet that seemingly alludes to something in May, and has users thinking it could refer to Silent Hill 2 and possibly even Astro Bot.

Once again, all of this is still firmly in rumour territory until more solid information or an official announcement appear, but with a very vague outlook on future releases for PlayStation at the moment, a big blowout showcase could be just the thing fans are looking for.
